It was wonderful! The ascent and descent were very smooth, and you felt rock solid in the air. However, we found out about some larger “touring” helicopters that were more comfortable (albeit more expensive), so decided to book a trip. My last helicopter trip in Kauai was not too enjoyable: very jerky and rather scary! I dreaded going on one again. We highly recommend this company if you are looking for a thrilling view of the islands of Hawaii. When we came to the Big Island, we discovered that Volcano National Park was closed, and the only way we could see the active volcano was by helicopter. Both pilots called us by name throughout our flights, and both ensured that everyone on the helicopter had clear views of everything they pointed out. Both tours were very well organized, with thorough safety briefings. By the time we returned, staff had made arrangements to refund the difference in cost between the tour we booked and the one we ended up taking. Ian also was knowledgeable and entertaining, and ensured that we were comfortable about a little bit of turbulence that we experienced. Our pilot, Ian, gave us a fantastic tour, with stunning scenery that was totally different from our previous tour. Our tour companions agreed with us that the shorter tour would be fine, and it did not disappoint. The staff was upfront about the situation, and offered us several options. We had booked the longer tour, but unfortunately the weather in Hilo did not co-operate, and we were unable to fly to that side of the island, missing the volcano. He was both knowledgeable and entertaining, and showed us spectacular scenery. We have just returned from the second of two tours with Sunshine Helicopters.
